Hey Bobby,

The '54 uses a different style of handle than the earlier models and is different than the one mentioned in the above thread. The '54 handle is larger and looks suspiciously like off the shelf auto handles. You might try Kragens and see what they have. I know of a new pair of the old style handles sitting around in a hanger in Monterey you might be able to make a deal on. If you are interested in them PM me and I'll send you the contact info. But beware..... The guy that owns them is a shrewd negotiator and drives a hard bargain. :D

Kragen Auto Supplyor any other auto supply of the type all carry a variety of handles to fit the spline shaft on commpn door latch assemblys as used on almost all cars and trucks. These handles are designed to a universal fit and may be used on almost any door latch spline shaft. They lock in place on the spline shaft with a toothed piece that is locked in place with an allen set screw. I've found them very effective and easy to use.

Gahorn, please disregard the above because it totally negates any semblance of originality.(I perosnally think they look a helluva lot better than the 1928 Chevy crap that Cessna bought as salvage and used.)

I used some of the "universal" auto handles on my 206 and the cheap plastic adaptor broke in no time and the set screw ruined the splines.
I recommend you use the most original handles you can. (I have a pair that are N.O.S. (new old stock) that I am saving for a hard-nosed trade for something I may need some day. You got something I can't live without?

George, you bought the cheap plastic crap! The handles I used are made of metal and the toothed part that engages the splines is made of hardened steel and the set screw impresses on it, and does not come in contact with the splined shaft. They work great and look really nice, but not original.

No, BluElder... I bought the cheap METAL handles with a plastic adaptors that you choose between to match up to the various spline patterns available. The set screw screwed up the shaft.

George,
Next time buy the good handles and I'll subsidize the difference in cost.
