L.E.D. Landing lights

Has anybody looked at or played with the new LED landing lights?

Only indirectly. I have clients who spent considerable money switching to the LED lights and privately (not publicly because it might get back to their boss they'd wasted his money) they claim the LED's do not provide the light intensity that the original incandescent lights did. (Although they did burn cooler and removed a requirement to keep them off except during flight in order to avoid damaging the plastic leading edge lenses on their aircraft.)
I don't thnk I'm interested. I only use landing lights for very short periods and when I need 'em... I NEED 'em!

If you're a night flyer and use landing lights for the purpose they were designed for, I'm a strong advocate of the installation of a duplicate set of lights in the right wing. This modification really lights things up and gives a more balanced outlook.

I run the standard landing lights both on at all times (in flight)... Never melted anything.
I'm a firm believer in using all exterior lights to help make me more visible and hopefully prevent a mid-air. This is standard with airlines when flying below 10,000'.

LED lights seem to be a good idea. In flashlights they do a great job with much less current draw (and heat). Are there any direct replacements that will fit the standard light bulb holder in our Cessna's?

I have my wings disassembled and the entire light boxes ripped apart.
So, rather than rebuilding I had to ask about a replacement LED's.

I have not seen a light bulb replacement. Instead they are blocks of multiple bulbs. e.g. http://www.aeroleds.com/AeroSUN.html
I have only found experimental applications so far.

I spent a few hours this summer crawling through the B787 reviewing the bearings and installation.
I only glanced at the outside of the leading edge, but there were sure a lot of LEDs near the wing tip. I forgot to look for the landing lights.

I was not referring to a C-170. (The Hawker has 500 Watt Land Lites which will melt the leading edge lens if left on unless the aircraft is underway.)

There is a company based on the field where I keep my 170 that sells lighting systems. I know noting about them but have seen a low-voltage light on their web page. They even say it is approved for the 170
