DG W/ Heading Bug

Post by 4-Shipp »

I am looking to upgrade my directional gyro with one that has a heading bug.

Has anyone done the same?
Where are some good sources that you have had good luck dealing with?

Thanks.

Good luck finding one that isn't realllly expensive. I was going to do that when mine kicked the bucket ... but after looking at the prices I just overhauled my old DG.

Bruce,

I've not used a DG with a bug, but I've always had good luck dealing with Chief Aircraft in buying other instruments. They have an RC Allen model 11D-7 vacuum DG with heading bug for $929. They also have a Sigma Tek model 4000HR-2 for $909. Go to http://www.chiefaircraft.com/airsec/Air ... Gyros.html The RC Allen is near the top, and Sigma Tek is about half way down the page.

Visit with your instrument/avionics shops and you may find one sitting around in OVC (Overhauled Condition) they'll exchange with you for your old one. It may be a way to save some money two ways...one..not buying a new instrument but an overhauled one, and ...two...getting some core value for your old one.

Spruce offers a RC Allen "heading bug only" (whatever that is) PN10-01605, for $178 . (I have a suspicion it's the additonal cost for the heading bug.) A view of the Spruce catalog page is: http://aircraftspruce.com/pdf/2008Indiv ... t08377.pdf

There are also drugs available that can help short-term memory for about the same money.

Bruce-
Merrill Field Instruments in Anchorage, 907-278-5277, http://www.merrillfieldinstruments.com/index.htm, always has one or two on the shelf. The Sigma-Tek work very well. If you get one, you'll be glad you did.

Bruce are you looking for one with auto pilot output. I have an 4000D-1 made by Edo Aire. Its used but i could overhaul it for you. I do not have a big call for these. So i need to come up with a price. Ill try to put a fair outright price together. If interested,Give me a call at 907-332-8366. Roger. Aircraft Instrument Repair. Anchorage Alaska. Or email airinstrepair@acsalaska.net.
