Does anyone have a source /part number for the rudder pedal tension springs. I never knew that is was supposed to have them until someone else familiar with 170s got in 39A!! Flies/taxis fine without them but they should probably go back on
Get ready for some frustration - I found replacing the rudder return springs very difficult. You need small hands, good dexterity and a lot of patience.
To make the job of rudder return spring replacement considerably easier, disconnect the rudder cables at the rudder horn and tie a length of safety wire to them to help pull them back out at completion of the job. This will allow the rudder prdals to be pushed full forward to reduce the need to stretch the springs for installation. It seems easiest to reach in through lightening holes in the tunnel. The springs attach to hooks on the back side of the firewall and the lower end of the rudder pedals. Their purpose appears to be to return the rudder pedals to the forward position and keep slack out of the rudder cables which are not tensioned in installation.

George I shutter every time I see a name of an aviation company that starts with Pr______ because I can't remember which one is which. Preferred Airparts is the exception because I know they have great service.
I'll have to do some word association. Lets see I never use PREMIUM gas in my cars or airplane and so no need to buy anything from a company of that name. OK got it.
CAUTION - My forum posts may be worth what you paid for them!

Yep, it's been a while since I posted this but I finally have time coming up to put the new springs in.....does anyone have a link to Premier Aviation or another vendor who has them?
I might possibly have a set of springs laying around, I disassembled several 170 fuselages during my rebuild. I'll look tommarrow and let you know if any are serviceable.
The one thing I wanted to point out was, when I disassembed the fuselage of mine from gearbox fwd. I found my rudder spring attach bracket was almost pulled through where the spring end attaches. I removed and replaced it. You might want to check yours at this time.
I found two holes in the firewall of 49EC exactly in line with the rudder springs and have used them to replace
the springs on both pedals. Before I found them I also remembered a lot of Navy words that I hadn't used in years. After finding them it only made sense to insert piece of safety wire through the hole, make a little loop on the end, attach it to the front part of the spring and after attaching the back part of the spring to the rudder pedal, pull the wire tight and slide the hook end of the spring into the bracket.
You can then either remove the wire or simply cut it and dab a bit of silicone over the hole.
I have one, new in the plastic, that I won't be using. Thought I broke a spring but didn't. I don't have the p/n with me, but it's the spring that is on the left side of the tunnel.
But by the time I need it, I'll have forgotten where the dang thing is, buy a new one, install same, then find the "old" one, and we're back where we started. If'n I find a home for it now, at least I'll know it has been put to good use...
