tach cable connector

Post by gordonbunting »

Hello,
I was curious if someone could help me clear up a question replacing the tach cable. The original cable seems to have a male connector at the junction of the cable and tach but the replacement cable from cessna (and aircraft spruce) seems to be female/female. The parts manual (page 72, part 12 i think) seems to show what I have, a male tach shaft cable attachment. A new tach isn't too bad but would rather keep the old tach in there if its still ok.

I'll try to post a pic of the old and new ends.
Thanks for all the help,
Take care,
Gordon

I'm probably not going to shed much light on your question but my Tach (housing) gave up the ghost two weeks ago. At first we tried replacing the cable assembly but the problem existed - now my "original" tach probably vintage was male and male on the block so the f/f worked for me.

From the looks of your photo that cable looks like vintage Wright Bros. - the whole shabang set me back about $250 with a re-clocked tach set to honest hours.

Good luck.

Gordon,

The question I have is what kind of tach to you have. All the cables and tachs I've seen your new cable would work with.

Thanks for the replies. Here is a pic of the tach if that helps. Wasn't able to get a make or model number off it.

Geez - your tach (at least the face) looks indentical to the one I just removed from my 1955 B model. Look as we may we did not find a model number.
