Which 29" tires do I have???

Post by Lopez »

I am americanizing a canadian 185 that I bought and I'm trying to get all of the paperwork legal. It has a set of 29" tires on 10" adapters but I am not sure whether they are Gar-Aero(now floats alaska) or Schneider or ?????

How do I tell? Any ideas? There is nothing cast into the adapters and nothing in the paperwork.

I know this isn't 170 stuff but I need to get this thing done so I can get back to work on my 170.

I should think that this would be a good question for the 180/185 club since I've seen those wheels on many more of their airplanes than ours.

The 10" adapters glued on to the 6" wheel are Gar- Aero's. There are a lot of airplanes in Alaska that have them including the 170. They work great, just a little heavy. They are not as soft as the new bush wheels but that can be good and bad.
Anyways if there are 29x10 tires on 10inch adapters glued to a 6" wheel they are Gar Aero.

Lopez-
If they are bolted to the wheel rim with three bolts, they are Schneider Wheel Ski adapters. That company is defunct and no way to get original paperwork that I know of.

If the wheel rim has no bolts, they would be the Gar Aero/Gray Aero set that is bonded to the wheel with epoxy.

I actually have a contact number for the paper work from Schneider Skis if needed. it took me almost a year to track down one of the owners, but was able to get the stc for my Schneider Skis last year. Let me know if anyone needs this.
