stall warning kit dwg # 0511062
Does anyone have a copy of this drawing? I called cessna today and was told I could lease a copy for 500.00 bucks. However they would send back 296.00 after they recieved the drawing back. Two hundred dollars for a 60+ year drawing is rediculas.So I was hoping that someone else had a copy. thanks nick

My airplane was not shipped with the kit installed, however at some time in the past it was. Now I am starting the process of rewiring the entire a/c and that drawing is the only thing that makes that kit legal. nick

It surprizes me that some C-170s did not come with the stall warning system in them. I've never seen one without it, but of course I naven't looked at all of them yet.

Only the B model was req'd to have the stall warning. The A model (and presumeably the ragwing) are eligible for the installation.
I think you should make a logbook entry such as "Found installed: Safe Flight Stall warning system in accordance with dwg #0511062" and let sleeping dogs lie. Unless you have a B model it's not req'd equipment and therefore not an airworthiness issue. If you have a B model, then it left the factory with it by default.

I was only wanting the drawing to cover my *** since I will be starting the rewire of the entire airplane. I probably could do as you suggest however, we have been dealing with the faa for the last couple of years on other non related field approvals, with succes and having the correct or approved documents is always a great bump smoothiner. So since I am now the one who is installing this kit I wanted the drawing just in case when they look at all my other paperwork, and if they ask what I installed the stall warning kit by, I would have it. nick

Nick, your effort to obtain the dwg is admirable and if you obtain a copy I hope you'll send a copy of it to TIC170A. Cessna is offering let let you view their dwg for about $250. You will not likely be authorized to copy it or save it. It is proprietary/copyrighted and they don't care to let you have it. It will show the Safe Flight detector (vane) installed on the leading edge adjacent to the pitot tube, with power supplied to it from the warn-horn/light assy in the cockpit, protected by a fuse, and grounded at the detector. The wire will be of the approprate size in accordance with 43.13. The aircraft will be test flown and the detector adjusted to give a 3-10mph warning.
Unless you intend to alter the existing wiring differently than all other 170's stall systems, (you are just replacing existing wiring with new, correct? You are referencing the wiring diagrams supplied/depicted by Cessna in the I.P.C., right?) ..If you are unable to obtain a copy of the dwg, It might be much simpler to let the local Cessna dealer (or any other qualified person) inspect the installation and record it as "installed in accordance with dwg 0511062" than it would be to attempt to provide a copy of that dwg to an FAA inspector who has no interest in seeing anything other than an aircraft record that testifies to the proper installation. Let the FAA obtain a copy of the dwg if they wish to question it. Just my opinion. (Of course, you could go ahead with the expense and trouble of getting that dwg and then have the FAA inspector question your basis of approval for using a MS screw instead of the PK screw called for in the dwg., or the use of a CB instead of the fuse called for in the dwg., or the caterpillar grommet instead of the Cessna PN rubber grommet called for in the dwg., etc. etc. etc. all of which would NOT be in accordance with the dwg. Sometimes it's simply better to not give them ammo to shoot back at you.)

my logbook entry would read something like "replaced wires with new per Cessna wiring diagrams and previously installed wiring" blah blah. Unless you change the fuses to CB's or something there's no need for a 337, and if you do a 337 for some part of the job it need only apply to that part of the job that was a major repair or alteration. replacing wires isn't a major repair, just maintenance. IMHO

Thanks George and HA, that was my thoughts after calling cessna and before posting this thread. I figured I should ask the people who really know about these airplanes to see if anyone here in the club would have it. I have been lucky with other dwgs in the past, as well as being able to obtain fuselage dwgs of our aircraft, which I sent George coppies of a few years ago. Thanks alot for the input fellas. nick
