Rudder
Well after putting it off for nine years I'm finnally reskinning my rudder. It was the worst one I've ever seen on a 170. During my walk around when I was first looking at it I thought, Its ok I'll just reskin it. I would have put it off longer but I bought the top close out rib on the vertical stab from the 195 people. When I went to change it out there where 3 screws behind the rudder. Of course when I removed the rudder the bell crank was junk. I had already bought the rudder skins from up in Wash so I could convince myself that I really intended to change them. When I had a Cessna 140A My bell crank didn't look to good back then they were $150.00 too much, fast forward $257.00. The lower part is all done new bell crank, skins, nav light on, all riveted up. I'm in the proccess of locating the larger skins now. Only have to change out the lower bushing I pressed it out off the plane yesterday. This was all caused from having the plane out in Elko NV. tied down out side. first they clamped the rudder at the top and cracked and distorted the top close out rib on the vertical stab. then they just let the rudder bang in the wind and the rudder stops moved and let the elevators come in contact with the rudder. Not a pretty sight. Can't wait to bolt it back on and have a new rudder steering the plane. Lance
