Ragwing Strut Fairing

Post by N2520V »

Ragwing guys:

When I purchased my basket case 48, wings were uncovered, airplane completely disassembled and damaged. Now that were in the final assembly phase, I'm faced with a dilemma that I'm hoping someone can resolve for me. In addition to the strut cuff fairing for the front lift strut, I have two flat covers/fairings that appear to go around the rear lift strut. These are not listed in the parts book that I can see. I have two questions, are these original, and if so, how in the heck to they attach to the wing? The front cuff attaches around the strut to itself, but this rear fairing is flat and has a number of screw holes that have tinnerman nuts on the back side. There is no wing structure to attach the faring too in the location around the strut, I've considered gluing a cellulose patch on the inside of the wing at this location and using a backing plate as well, but would really like to know if other Ragwing's have these fairings and if so, how they are attached.

Thanks.

I have those plates on my struts. They are attached using the clipon tinnermans.

my aft strut cover panels are attached by use of rivnuts that were installed with a doubler thru the fabric, not my first choice, I too would prefere the use of tinermans.

My rear strut panels are attached by tinnerman nuts too. We made a reinforcing doubler when we recovered the wing to replace the old one. The tinnermans are on that doubler, which we drilled holes into for the screws.

Hope you get it flying soon!
