I'm now running Unattainium axles. They are lighter than aluminum and twice the strength of Steel.
Not really I'm running solid aluminum.
Hope you come to see me Bruce,

Speaking of gear legs,I talked to Tom Anderson ("Tailwheel Tom") of XP Mods over the weekend,at the aviation show in Puyallup WA. He had some of his big tailwheels there,as well as some gear legs. He sells the titanium legs,I think he said they're made in Alaska,as well as steel legs which I think he said were made by P-Ponk.
Anyway, the titanium legs are $6K a set,new steel are $4K a set. These are for 180/185 legs, they might be on the stout side for a 170.He also reconditions stock gear legs, and sometimes gets the old gear legs in trade when he sells new legs. He also sells Ponk beefup kits, axles, and other landing gear parts.
I would think he's the man to call if you're wanting to go with 180 legs. Very knowledgable. It might be a better choice for some folks to just have their 170 gear legs reconditioned, rather than buying 180 legs.
