A while ago I saw a C180 with a heavy duty cargo net strung from floor to ceiling about three inches aft of the door post. It looked like a pretty good way to keep items in the back from smacking you in the head in the event of a crash. It was also handy for hanging things you might want to reach back and grab while in flight. It didn't interfere with moving the front seats or getting in and out. Since I almost never have anyone in the back fold-up seats, it seems like a pretty good modification.

I can see where the bolts for the stock shoulder harnesses could be used for the top attachment, but I'm not sure how the bottom attachment went. I'm also unsure if it was an approved modification, or just something he jerry-rigged. Anyone out there have any experience/input?

My plane came with some handy tie-down rings that are adjustable along the seat rail. Way handy for strapping things down, but since they are "FAA/PMA Approved" they cost a C-note each.

F. Atlee Dodge sells a Cessna seat track tie down for $68. No basis of approval comes with it.

My '52 had a numbr of 1/4-28 nut plates installed under the back floor. According to what I remember reading somewhere inthe past, they had to do with the installation of an optional ambulance kit or something. At any rate, there were six of them to which I attached tie down rings. With the rear seat removed, I also installed tie down rings in the four seat anchors, two in the floor and two on the sidewalls. These rings gave me ample anchor points for tying down camping gear or cargo.

It is an interesting question to me as to whether a tie down ring or attachment point easily removable from a seat track, or attached to the rear seat attachment bolts such as the one I theoretically might be using (see photo), requires a basis of approval :?:

Screwing one into the floor with a backing plate? I could see that. But hanging a ring onto existing hardware or sliding it onto the seat track... :?
