Calling in the experts. I have a 53B, sr # 26033 that does not have a dash cover. I found a new one that is suppose to fit a 170B thru early 172 and checked the numbers. Mine calls for part # 0513004-27, the one he has is a 0513004-28 which appears to be for the early 172's. The $500 question is can it be modified to work? My dash is allready modified with the compas mounted on top of the dash. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think I have the part you need. I was going to put it on my 53 but decided a little Bondo and some paint would fix my original one easier. PM me with your email address and I'll send you some pics.

Re: Dash cover assembly
Scott, if you have re-located your compass to the top of the dash, then a '53 panel overlay will have a 2" square hole where your compass is no longer. My question is: What does it matter if you cannot find panel that fits exactly? Aren't you pretty much going to have to make one or otherwise customize one anyway? Or do you intend to return your compass to the 1953 location?

At least one other option: put no instrument in that hole, install a blank instrument cover, and use the original panel cover. I just had my ADF removed (that top center hole held the indicator), so now I can reinstall my original panel cover after about 15 years of hibernation.gahorn wrote:Scott, if you have re-located your compass to the top of the dash, then a '53 panel overlay will have a 2" square hole where your compass is no longer. Re: Dash cover assembly
No matter what panel cover I can get my hands on I will need to modify it. My current panel has the altimeter in the compas location, a DG where thr altimeter was, and in the bottom center are the turn and bank, rate of climb, and manifold pres./fuel pres. guages- all 3 inch. What I'm trying to find out is if -28 cover for an early 172 is a good starting place instead of the orriginal -27.
Also 4583C I PM'ed you and I will include my e-mail address here as I am definately interested to see what you have.
