added question on tail spring

my old main spring measured .323 no paint, my new spring from spruce measured .312 with the paint that comes on it from spruce. Was the spring that I had on not a 170 spring? it was on when I bought the plane. Thanks russ

Maybe it was a Bird-dog tailspring? Who's got one on their 170 that they can measure? I seem to recall seeing the dimensional difference spelled out somewhere,it woulda been here or on the old yahoo site if I did see it....
