1948 C170 Measurements
Could you gents help me with some measurements as I’m away from my plane and publications but trying to get setup to trailer my plane (project).
1.Width of main gear
2.Length: Main wheels to tail wheel
3.Length: Main wheels to tip of spinner (as it is sitting on the ground/trailer) I’m wondering how long the trailer hitch has to be for the spinner to clear the truck canopy.
4.Height: of spinner from the ground with tail wheel on the ground/trailer
5.Length: wing root to tip
6.Wing cord length (leading edge to trailing edge)
7.Max depth of wing (top surface to bottom)
I’m hoping to make some wing cradles and also wonder if I need to remove the truck canopy.
Thanks for your time.
Greg

Greg , Eddie Peck didn't have anything you could rebuild? My father-in law lives in Middleton and flew out of Greenwood. I'm thinking after Duluth convention of flying there this summer. Where in Nova Scotia will you be based from?

It's a small world! I moved to Nova Scotia last summer and live just outside of Middleton. I purchased the plane about this time last year then got word about my millitary transfer to the east coast. I knew the fabric was rough but thought I might just be able to fly it home however that turned out to be wishful thinking. I'm on the west coast finishing up some training and will use the return trip to trailer the plane out east.

I would appreciate the measurements if you have time.
Thanks

Re: 1948 C170 Measurements
1.Width of main gear DW SPEC IS 86" CENTER OF TIRE TO CENTER OF TIRE, AFTER PULLING MINE INTO HANGER, IT MEASURES INSIDE TO INSIDE OF TIRES 85" AND OUTSIDE TO OUTSIDE OF TIRES 95"
2.Length: Main wheels to tail wheel DW MINE MEASURES 232"
3.Length: Main wheels to tip of spinner (as it is sitting on the ground/trailer) I’m wondering how long the trailer hitch has to be for the spinner to clear the truck canopy. DW MINE WITH A SKULL CAP MEASURES 68"
4.Height: of spinner from the ground with tail wheel on the ground/trailer DW MINE MEASURES 63"5.Length: wing root to tip DW EDGE OF CABIN (WING ROOT) TO TIP OF POSITION LIGHT 195 1/2"
6.Wing cord length (leading edge to trailing edge) DW LEADING EDGE TO TRAILING EDGE OF FLAP OR AILERON 60 1/2"
7.Max depth of wing (top surface to bottom) DW IT IS A MAC 59.33 WING AND I WAS HOPING I COULD FIND THE MEASUREMENT. SINCE I CAN'T ON THE WEB, I MIGHT BE ABLE TO MEASURE INSIDE FROM AN INSPECTION HOLE TO THE TOP SURFACE. I WILL TRY THIS AFTERNOON.
I have a 170 drawing with more dimensions that I was hoping to attach. I will see if I can send via PM or I might need you email address.

Greg:
The best I can measure the wing thickness is a minimum of 7" and the maximum is estimated up to 8 ". I will pick up my new project next weekend and the fabric is off the wings so I will be able to get you an accurate measurement.

The wing thickness measures 7 1/2 " If you arebuilding racks proably plan for 8 " and then shim with blackets or foam.
