Rubber firewall mounts
We have the engine off my friends 55 170B model and want to change the rubber engine mounts on the firewall.
We were told that they are a pain to get in, dont last long and that there were mods to replace them with solid mounts instead. Is this true,?
Thanks, Rob

Re: Rubber firewall mounts
I have heard of the solid mounts referred to as "Seaplane Mounts". Maybe some place like Kenmore?

Re: Rubber firewall mounts
There's no downside to the rubber ones unless you're trying to get more than 30 years out of them. They're rubber, so over time they will wear out. Worn mounts may let the attachment bolt/washer wear into surrounding structure which would have to be repaired ($$$$). So if you take care of your plane as most do I'd stay original.

Re: Rubber firewall mounts
Thanks all for the replys . I guess we will use the rubber mounts then, and we had planned on installing the engine to the mount first and then on the plane, so all is good .

Re: Rubber firewall mounts
Changed mine 8 years ago when I did my first annual because the rubber mounts were cracked and hard. They still look good.

Re: Rubber firewall mounts
I think I got mine at cessnaparts.com but not sure. George will jump in here soon - I also think he told me where to get mine so he'll know for sure. They are easy to replace. I did it with the engine on the plane. There is a good thread or two on here about them.
