First Annual Due in August in Alaska
I am approaching my first annual inspection come August. I bought the plane in Montana so I don't have access to the previous owner's mechanic. I am looking for suggestions from you Alaska guys for a mechanic in the Mat-Su valley. I am located at the Wasilla airport and would like to get a working relationship going with a local shop. I want what I think we all want...quality/thoroughness and reasonable charges. I have talked with a few mechanics but haven't gotten that warm/fuzzy feeling so far. Any suggestions?

Here's one good shop.
Mel Wick
Wick Air, Inc.
745-4322
8091 E. Palmer Wasilla Hwy
Very perceptive fellow and excellent mechanic. Very knowledgable on 170's. Has little fixes in his hat for common 170 issues.
And provides layman's explanation of what needs to be done, what can be done and what should be done. He starts with professional level explanation, then adjusts according to the degree of glaze in your eyes.
I haven't spoke with him this season. Lots of road and subdivision work by his place, Four Corners Airport, at Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Trunk Road. Next to the new grocery store.
Saw a 180 zip outa there last week, so someone's around.

I second Wick Air. I have used them for fifteen years and have had good results with several different Cessnas. Mel and his guys are knowledgeable, fair, and honest. I was there yesterday and they are going strong. They just finished building a new Super Cub for the Troopers/Fish and Game.

Wick's was the caretaker of my plane.
