Nav Light/Instrument Light switch(es)

Post by rydfly »

Hello folks,

I'm trouble-shooting some electrical gremlins in my instrument lighting system and I'm looking for some info...

Currently, both my external nav lights and internal instrument lights (both the overhead "torpedos" and numerous post lights) are powered on by the same switch and run through the same fuse. They separate after the switch, with the instrument light circuit going on to the rheostat dimmer and the nav light circuit going it's own way...

In referencing my ancient parts catalog (printed in 1968), I believe I'm seeing that the wiring diagram for my '53 -B model should have them on separate circuits completely, with each having it's own switch and fuse, I believe 10-amp on the Navs and 15-amp on the instruments.

Which is correct?

Thank you,

Neither. In all B-models the nav lites have their dedicated switch and 10A fuse. The instrument lighting rheostat obtains it's power from the 15A heater fuse (although very few airplanes actually had the Stewart-Warner heater) and the rheostat was the only control for the inst. lites.

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)
