The vertical card compass maybe easy to read, but I've never found one that had a long life. There are a good many wet compasses installed and working that are well over fifty years old. The ovehaul kits are cheap and almost any fluid such as kerosene or paint thinner seems to work as a satisfactory dampening fluid.

I think it must be single-malt! (Or in the case of old-timers like you who can remember how to fly an old radio-range A/N beam.....
