My recently purchased 170b came out of a garage and didn't have the key with it. The owner sent me what he "thought" was the key, but it didn't work. The Key switch says Bendix on it, does anybody have any info or hints on keys that will work, locksmiths, or the removal of the switch?
Thanks,
Randy

Any good locksmith should be able to supply you with a key, but you might want to "price" the effort first. Either remove your switch and take it to him, or buy a new switch which comes with keys.
Some of the old Bendix switches have AD notes against them. If the key can be removed in any position other than "OFF"...or if the engine does not stop running with the switch "OFF" with healthy "P-leads"...the switch is condemned and must be changed.
(And if you're trying for originality...you might wish to ask him if he can get orignial "Cessna" keys which have the logo. Blanks are sometimes still found at older locksmith shops.)
Here's a Bendix "copy" which is less expensive than the original. Notice they are also available with locksets for your doors so you can have one key operate all.:

I was looking at that lockset earlier, will those locksets work in a 170b door?

Ask your locksmith to adapt them to the tangs of your door locks. (He'll remove the tang that comes with the set and re-use the one in your door.)
