Ignition switch

Post by MontanaBird »

My '56 170B needs a new ignition switch; the existing one is trashed after too many years of me abusing it here in our tough Montana conditions :?

I cannot tell if the ones shown on this website are acceptable for use but it appears they are.

Since it's less then 1/2 the cost of a Bendix one must consider.

Any thoughts or experience with this item greatly appreciated !

Montanabird,

The Aircraft Spruce ignition switch you mention is the same one I put in my plane +/- 15 years ago and it is still working fine. The only thing I don't like is the non-cessna "large type" key. But, otherwise it looks good and works very well.

That one should work fine, I just had one here. I was going to replace mine because the owner of the 170b I purchased couldn't find the key. In the end I sent it back because I was able to cut my own key for ours. If you want to see what it all looks like, search for Ignition Key I did a whole write up on it with pictures. Make sure you label the leads, and dont' forget when the wires are off the prop is hot. The post has more guidance, don't forget about your door key too.
