Wood 170 Desk Model

Post by PilotMikeTX »

Does anyone have a wood desk model of their 170? Preferably with custom paint and registration. I'd like to know where I could find one if anyone has any suggestions. The outfit that's making a model of one of the jets that I fly could do it if I provided 3 view drawings and measurements, but I'd rather not have s/n 001 of anything.

There's a fellow in the Phillipines who made a model for me as a sample for consideration for trophies for the GLS convention. Unfortunately he didn't get the sample to me until after convention week so it didn't work out.

Anyway, his model is very nicely completed and detailed and I'll try to find the contact info for you.

I got a great guy to do the models of my 170. His name is Winston Uy. His address is:
P.O. Box #13200 Ortigas Center Post Office,
Emerald Ave. Ortigas Center,
Pasig City 1605 Phillippines.

He advertises on Ebay under the screen name: Builderscience. His email is builderscience@yahoo.com. You can do a search on him. He did my 170 with antennas and all for $65 +$20 Shipping. I am a frequent customer of his. I cant guarantee you will get it for $65, but his work is exceptional. All hand painted, just send him lots of pictures of your aircraft. Turn around time is 2 months outside of holidays. Look for him on Ebay. Doug

I also got a model of my 170 from Winston and was very pleased. It is very good value for the money. It took a while, as he indicated ahead of time, came very well packed, and was well worth the wait.

Do send him comprehensive photos of your plane and good 3d views of your particular model.

I'd also recommend the gentleman from the phillipines. I sent him a picture of my 170 and he kept me updated as it progressed. I now get to look at my airplane everyday on my desk. The only thing that I will caution, and it's more for the die-hard that would catch this, but all his models are B-models that have the dihedral in the wings.

If you want to build your own Guillow's has a really nice 170 balsa model for $21.99. The span is 24" which is a bit large for a desk. (I have a 22" Mahogony Cessna 172 that my wife purcased for me on a cabinet in my office and it is not too big. She thought it was a 170 when she purchased it.) I ordered a Guillow 170 a few years ago but have not gotten arround to building it. It is a nice kit for the price.
