My wife and I threw a cook out on the lake today. The storm that clobbered DC stayed just to the south of us. But we got quite a bit of wind from it! I brought mine in, and a couple others came and left. It was blowin' pretty good. It 'warmed' up to the upper 20's, and the fire helped. Most of the group preferred to drive in.
This video I'm posting was made by one of the 'fly-boys', and I know it's like a home movie, but check out some of those cross wind take-offs on ice!
We had a blast!

Nice! Does 15A have and o-300 or did you change that out with the tail wheel conversion?

Nope. O300 high timer. Runs great!!!
I keep beating myself up over this. Runs great, burns no oil, never skipped a beat. Really hate to fix something that ain't broke...
But I know it's going to get that overhaul, I just wish and hope that this economy would pick up.

Re: 7MA2 Cook-Out/Fly-In
How thick is the ice? I looked at the temps up there today and they were just above freezing. Does it stay frozen most of the winter? Brrr, makes me cold just looking at the video, but then I have 6 inches of snow now in Memphis with another 2-3 predicted for today.
I'm in PDX right now, hope the airport is open when I get there tonight about midnight tonight.

The ice was marginal. It was 7 1/2" thick everywhere I chopped a hole. That's good for a 2 ton gross. The real issue was the wind! We had a wind chill of 13 degrees.
Being on the cove that we're at, it has a lot less moving water than out on the open lake. Some winters it's not safe enough to land on, other times we may get 13" of ice.
It's a lot of fun taking off and landing in the x-wind. It's a great way to teach tail-draggin'. Very forgiving!

Re: 7MA2 Cook-Out/Fly-In
Having absolutely no experience with frozen lakes, I can only recall what my old Boy Scout Field Manual taught:
"One inch KEEP OFF (showed a kid breaking thru the ice!)
Two inches, ONE may (and showed an ice-skater)
Three inches, Small Groups... (showed a few couples skating)
Four Inches...OK! (showed a horse-drawn sleigh and lots of skaters)
