I saw another alternative to rear seats this last weekend,I'd heard this described but never seen it on a live airplane before.I looked in the back of a friend's 180 & saw that he had a stock bench rear seat frame installed, but with all the upholstery & springs, etc stripped off. The seat bench & back were both covered with Ceconite or Stits fabric. This is how BAS supplies their folding jumpseats. This mod must cut at least 10 or 15 pounds off the 32 or so pounds of a stock seat. There was thin seat pads on both the bench & the back that looked like maybe his wife had sewed up,using 1" foam rubber & corderoy or something, they couldn't have weighed but a pound or two. The back seat is mainly for his 2 small kids, they're either wiggling & giggling or asleep while in-flight so they probably don't notice any discomfort. He still has the stock seat with upholstery he can install if needed.

Rear seat nutplates
I have had this problem because I tend to remove & reinstall my half rear seat probably more than most and the nutplates do wear out. You may want to check w/George, but there is an article on this subject available. I think it may have been in the first 170 book. It was on the same page as a makeshift control lock for 170's. If not let me know and I will locate my copy and send you a copy. It is a means of replacing the nutplates on the sides. The ones in the floor are easier to do, but the side ones are a little tricky. My AI replaced mine a couple of years ago. As an alternative I understand some members have gone to a C-172 seat that has individual reclining backs and these use a different attachment method. Probably a much better system all around.
