I would like to revive the original thread header. Where is a good place to get two of the door catches, the actual part that is mounted at the top of the door? Iwantmycessnaparts wants a minimum qty of 25 per order. They want $1.24 each but I only need two? anybody want to do a group buy or has this been done before? Will Hill Aircraft sell quantity 2? thanks, Doug

Doug,

Your talking about the catch that is on the inside of the door. I bought two and since I've never bought new Cessna parts anywhere but Hill that must be were I got them. I think they will accommodate you.

BTW at $1.24 i'd buy a few extra. I broke a brand new one within 10 minutes of it's install. It was to tight and one side broke but actually still worked pretty well. If I'd had another I'd have put it on.

Contact our Member, Johnny Williams in TX. He carries both the HatchLatch style as well as the original catch (which is a not un-common Tinnerman.)

Members please note that our resident "Originality Nut" has deviated to the degree that he has installed C-172 door latches in his highly touted original C-170B. That's almost enough to bring tears to the eyes of a purist. I wouldn't be surprised to see a set of fuzzy dice hanging from his compass next.

I'd have to look, but I saw a Mod that uses a magnet instead of the standard setup. I think I saw it on the 150 Club site. That door latch was a bad idea that just persisted. I'll follow up if I find anything.

Not what I remember, and I haven't contacted them for more info, but here is a screenshot of the 150 Club and the item that came up with a search. It's gotta be better than the original catch....

The thread below begins with a 172 owner who installed the "Blue Sky Latch" from Aircraft Spruce ($39.95). It looks like it does take some finagling to get them installed, but may be worth it.
I swear I saw one with magnets...

You'd be wrong in that comment dear Eldr.
The 172 latches on my airplane were originally installed by the previous owner....not by me.
