Cigarette lighter 337

Post by susang777 »

We would like to add a cigarette lighter / accessory power receptacle on our 55 C170B, and would like to know if anybody has a copy of a 337 for this to help with the process. Also, any tips or experience would be appreciated. Thank you.

Didn't your '55 have a cigar lighter? Many of these where removed or disconected to comply with an AD which basically said to do so OR fuse the circuit. Many people missed the second part.

If your plane had one(not sure if '55s did) then reinstall it with a fuse/breaker per the TC and the AD and log book entry and your done.
If it did not come with one and was not available in '55 then you'll have to go the 337 route. Whether or not you find a 337 to support your mod if this is the way you need to go, use the TC equipment list and the wiring schematic and the AD info from and older model to support your request. Should be a no brainer which is good cause we all know the FAA has no brains. :D

BTW Nice to see you posting again. It's been some time.

My 55' did have a cigarette lighter in the original panel. Perfect for the portable GPS or cell phone.

Thanks for the info! It didn't occur to me that it might have had one earlier. We're pretty sure that if it did have a cigarette lighter, it was removed prior to 30 years ago, because John doesn't remember it ever having one.

Sorry it's been so long. John and I have each been working three jobs this year. No time for anything, even eating, sleeping, etc. Only a little time for flying, more's the pity.

But we're trying to rectify that! I've got a couple of good flying stories to tell y'all... and I'm trying to find some time to update the C170 sites and database, too.

Thanks again!
