Thinking about buying an F&M STC for spin on filter for my C 0-300-D.
Any Pros or cons??
I do have a digital electronic torque wrench I use in my race engine business to torque the filter to the required 17 ft lbs.
I just went to the F&M site and have read the warning. I did see some adapters on E-bay, but they said they had the STC's.
I'm new to this and didn't recognize any of the e-bay sellers as El Reno. I will probably go through my A&P.

Re: F&M Filter adapter
I bought mine about nine months ago from F&M and think it's a well built adapter and have had no problems with it.

Re: F&M Filter adapter
My advice is to stay away from ebay for these. El Reno was an early distributor for the FM manufactured unit known as the "El Reno" filter adapator. The OEM (FM) subsequently began direct-sales including the installation paperwork (STC) for their unit which was improved over the original models sold by El Reno.
El Reno is out of business and no longer supports any product. Their old stock was purchased by persons unknown and is being advertised/sold in several venues...none of which meet the latest revision of the FM Enterprises units.
Buy directly from FM in Borger, TX is my advice. (I have this unit and it has performed excellent now for over 10 years.)

I second George's opinion. Also of concern is the orginal El Reno had a gasket that leaked alot and F&M supplies a better on with less leaks. The El Reno also has a 1 1/4 ( I believe) square nut in which to tighten - good luck finding that socket - the new models have hex nuts which are much easier to find. Steve

For the square nut, use a crowfoot socket. Most tool companies have them.

Re: F&M Filter adapter
This square nut whehter you have an F&M filter adaptor or the stock screen will be a minor issue from time to time specially if you don't have a way to properly tighten it.
I would suggest you make a square socket if you have the capability to gas weld. I made about 10 of them, including a Red one for slow turning, and they were sold at the annual convention auction.
I used scrap 1" square tube. You need a thin wall which is about 16 guage. It should be deep enough to go over the temperature gauge adapter or about 2" deep. You will need to grind out the internal weld on the one wall and use a file to square off the inside of the corners. I then welded a broken socket or a regular hex nut to the other end so I can turn it directly or indirectly with a rachet or torgue wrench.
It is an easy fun project to kill a few hours in the shop and insure you will never really need the square socket.

I can tell you that the ones Bruce made work great. Definitely a good way to solve a potential problem with the F&M filter adapter. Of course mine works great because its GREEN

I also bought a red one from Bruce. But knowing how slow George's plane was with his green one, I swaped mine for his so he could keep up with me.
