1st Cessna 172 restoration

Post by DocOz »

Well, to begin with the first 172 has more to do with the last 170 than the rest of the 172 line. I've gotten a lot of information from 170 drivers and decided I should a least let you guys in on the progress we have made with N5000A (sn 28000) which is the first 172 made. I'm the 16th owner. It was previously owned by Joe Nelsen in TX for over 20 years. He bought it from a fella who had it about 10 years before that. I've finally set up a photo account and posted a bunch of photos. Any input from you guys regarding originality would be greatly appreciated. We are doing a ground up restoration and want to be as close to original as possible. Help with an instrument panel overlay, an original Cessna radio (to make an overlay to cover my digital radio/transponder while static on the ground) a DG and AI are the next few things on the list I need. If you have any of this old stuff I would be game!

Thanks,

We will go back to as original as possible. There have been more Cessna 172's manufactured than any other aircraft in the world. Since this is the first one (well documented) we simply cannot take short cuts. It will be as original as possible.
