Mallory Rheostat
Does anyone know of a good source for a Mallory M6RK rheostat that controls the cabin/panel lites and Radio stack. I've checked with the MFG they don't have any in stock. They will make 2 for me @ $150 ea or 100 @ $13 ea. I like the $13 price but don't know what to do with the other 98.
Cessna (Foothill A/C in Upland) can get them for $91.

Re: Mallory Rheostat
I will take one if you can find 97 other buyers (i.e. I'll give you $13 for one). Otherwise I'm going to break out my calculator and Newark catalog...rbarry wrote:Does anyone know of a good source for a Mallory M6RK rheostat that controls the cabin/panel lites and Radio stack. See if you can do any better with the catalog than I did yesterday on the phone, I spent about 15-20 mins with a Newark guy and he couldn't find that part. The problem I've got is my rheostats are (1 of them) mounted under the cigerate lighter and I can't fit the ohmite rheostat that I bought from Spruce below it. Also the Mallory's are sealed in a can like container and isolates the electrons. I like that.
OK now we only need about 48 more people that need 2 ea of the Mallory's.

Re: Mallory Rheostat
The M6RK is a 6 ohm rheostat. Russ, You don't say which Ohmite model you have acquired from Spruce, but if it's the larger "L" and "H" series, then it may or may not be "original" to your aircraft.
The other Ohmite product which Cessna used in this application was the Ohmite "E" series, Model 0106, which is a 12.5 Ohm rheostat, and is much smaller than the "L" series.
I have 3 of them and I will happily sell them for $10 each. They are NOS in original (moth-eaten) boxes. They measure 3/4" in diameter and 3/4" in depth which is how much room it needs above the mounting plate beneath the panel (and is not including the stem, which goes thru the mount-hole. The stem is 3/8" long, exiting a 1/4" threaded shank, and accepts a knob for a 1/8" shaft. Total height of entire unit, including stem is 1.5".
Here is a link to a supplier of Ohmite Rheostats. They give a very complete listing of rheostats, values, sizes, etc. The series "E" and series "H" are the most commonly used in Cessnas. Note the size and ohm values, and prices.
The one they have that I believe is identical to the ones I offered are priced at $27.
Ohmite
Rheostat; Rest 10 Ohms; Wirewound; Pwr-Rtg 12.5W; Panel; Dia 0.875in; Open
Mfr's part#: RES10RE
Allied Stk#: 296-4067
(If you want the fully enclosed model, order the RES10EE).

A great resource is the Ohmite catalog (which you can order from Allied):

Re: Mallory Rheostat
I know this is an old thread but did someone order a bunch of these and has them sitting around? I need one. The parts link is broke on the Allied website. Thanks, Doug

Re: Mallory Rheostat
Thanks, Doug... I fixed the link. UPDATE: the prices at this link are RIDICULOUS! These things are worth only about $15 at the MOST. I suggest you search electronics salvage and re-sale stores. The last one I purchased at "Altex" in SAT cost 25-cents each, and the last one I purchased retail from Allied (this link) was $15. Now they want $35 each, min order of 5. They apparently have decided to stick it to folks just because they "can".canav8 wrote:I know this is an old thread but did someone order a bunch of these and has them sitting around? I need one. Re: Mallory Rheostat
I was able to repair mine by popping the top and then dropping a dab of solder where it was obvious a wire had melted. Works perfect again.
