Thanks Richard. Sort of looking for a used pair which is really not a lot of savings and, not sure if I might not just hassle with maybe making a dolly of sorts to trailer it to where I can take off on straight skis and return. I really do not like even the idea of the added weight and plumbing to make hydralic skis when it is not that often you really need them once you get out of the Valley. Aw well there is no place like Nome...or other places where straight skis make a lot of sense. I can always tie down somewhere and go the preheat route too which is not a lot of fun. Wing covers scraping frost ugggh. What a toss up, taxi out of a warm hangar or spend hours in the dark getting ready for a flight that can only last a few hours so you can get back before dark and get things secured again.

So, anyone know why 3000 Federals are not approved but 2500 and 3500 are on the TCDS?
Thanks

I wish I had red skis, they are the 3000's. Instead I have white skis. Those are the 2500's.Been looking into new plastic for them and if I go that route I will probably do the +2" all the way around.

Thats a "striped assed ape", which I've been led to believe is the result of a ghastly liaison between a female ape and a zebra, or maybe it was the other way around, but it could run like hell.

As a matter of fact, that nifty airplane just above does look a little Zebra "Stripey" around the nose section.

Those AWBs are great performing skis, I had a set on two different Super Cubs. The only problem with them is the tire is suspended in the air and every bit of impact loading the ski sees is transmitted directly into the landing gear. Most retractable wheel skis are designed so the tire rests on the ski absorbing shock loads before they go directly to the airplane. Luckily the Cessna gear is very flexible, the Cub gear bangs a lot harder.

Also, with the AWBs you have to remember to NOT step up on the tire to fill the gas tanks with the skis down. The wheels are usually stuck a little and will resist rotating until you just get your weight on the tire then they spin out underneath you giving you a fairly undignified trip onto the ground, I am told..........
