Re: lakevue or atlee folding seats?
I have to agree sling/hammock seats are not comfortable for extended flights. Firm cushions help but the bars dig into your legs and neck and you sit in a continual slouch your momma would slap you for at the dinner table or in church.
There are two different sling seat designs I have run across thru the years. One is an obsolete STC by Cargo-Pass Co, Anchorage, Alaska, from the 1980s and the other was a field approval used by Wien Alaska Airlines back in the 1960s when they flew C180s in the bush.
I bought a complete Wien-design sling seat years ago but never installed it because I found the Kenmore 206 middle seat STC about the same time and chose real seats over a hammock.
One benefit of the sling seat was if cargo was hauled instead of passengers, the sling becomes an effective cargo net. Plus, the sling could be slid over to one side to load cargo in the seat area if only one rear seat passenger was being carried.

Run a couple marathons or ultras and you can.
No pain, no gain
Boy that would be nice... but I think Im a bit more comfortable just being a bit fat... It certainly is easier!
Anyone remember that old breakfast cereal ad that had a woman pinching her belly and it said "Can you pinch more than an inch?" That seems to be the rule now days rather then the exception...just saying

Those seats come covered in leather for 2100.00? Are they powder coated? If so that is a deal.

Everyone that putters around on their own airplane should subscribe to "Aviators Bulletin" for about $14/ yr. It is full of good deals. I bought a new set of BAS Inertia Reel shoulder harnesses for $300., and a set of the fold up rear seats, new, for $250. No paperwork, but at that price, who cares. You have to take into consideration my total lack of enthusiam for paperwork of almost any kind. Subscribers to "The Aviators Bulletin" may post ads in it at no cost. I have been very successful in attracting buyers for my aviation stuff when advertised therein.
Incidentally, this evening I received a phone call and sold a VAL COM 760 TSO Radio that I advertised in our "Trademart" forum in October last year. The guy is an undertaker, has a Piper Cherokee Six, and hauls stiffs around in it. How he ever found that ad in our forum beats me.

Re: lakevue or atlee folding seats?
I have the Atlee jump seats in my 170. Love em. They came with the plane when I bought it so I cant speak about price or install. I can unfold them and haul kids or fold them up and haul moose quarters. Takes about 10 seconds per seat. These are not covered, just the material that came on them.

A poor man's version that is probably just as light and almost as useful:
Strip the original rear seat, remove the springs and cover it with Heavy Dacron.
Then, put in removable pins to easily remove the back of the seat.
It doesnt get you a full open floor but it will allow you to haul bigger than normal stuff and will knock a few pounds off of the seat itself.
There was another thread on the forum that talks about it.

Re: lakevue or atlee folding seats?
Some time ago I was investigating hammock / sling seats. I too saw that an STC for such a design was owned by Stoots Aviation, which is well known here in Fairbanks. The proprietor owns the STC but is not supporting it at this time.
A follow-up post to the BCP quote above states that the FAS sling seat is listed on the type certificate for the 170. Hmm, I can't decipher that out of document A-799, but perhaps someone here can.
$2k is a lot for a folding stool, plus 8 hours of labor. I'd love to have something that would make the airplane quickly configurable and lighter which is what led me to research the sling seat. Its simply too rich for my blood until I finish some more important mods.

How do you both come in second? wouldnt one of you be third?marathonrunner wrote:I didnt know people could really be 5' 9" and 150 lbs...?
Run a couple marathons or ultras and you can. I think I have done Boston 7 times and countless others. We have one up here I did twice called the Susitna 100. Look it up, it is bike, ski or run across frozen Alaska on snow machine trails. It is 100 miles and mmost people who do it think running is the most insane of the three disciplines. I was only going to do it once but when we traveled to South Africa, we stayed at a place in the Drakensburg in the town of Underburg called Khotso Horse Trails. The owner Steve Black had a book on extreme running in the arctic. He wanted to do the one from Whitehorse to Dawson. I told him he was crazy and to come up and just do this one. He did and talked me into doing it again. We both came in second out of like 16 runners for the race.
He also had to go into Lesotho which is a small kingdom inside South Africa while we were there to make accomadation for some kids for some organization that likes to help people in developing countries. Not wanting to drive there because of the road conditions, he asked me to run over there with him. It was an experience not to be forgotten including having to umm get past customs both ways without passports. Another story we had them but they were closed going over and open coming back..65K in one day up a mountain and down both ways and the scenery was unbelivable as were the structures of stone that you would never see unless you went on the trails.
I asked him about taking water to drink and he told me "we just dip in streams" I asked about giardia and he told me they train their animals not to ummm poo in the streams like they did in America. In fact he got sick on a kayak race from the Great Lakes to New York harbour one year doing just that.
