What Part Is This?

Post by Blue4 »

I was looking through my owner's manual one day, and I came across this.
Door Lock Backing.jpg
What is that part behind the knob on the door latch lock? It looks like an oval plastic trim piece, but I can't locate it in the illustrated parts catalog.

I know the wise ones here will have an answer -- and a source! I'd like to finish my interior trim. :)

on my airplane it's metal, but I think that I have an ancient Airtex interior so it might not be the original deal

My plane had the original upholtery when I got it 41 years ago. This is just a metal trim piece under the door lock knob. I have transfered it to two different interiors since I have had the plane.

Does anyone know a part number and/or source? Or have one laying around for sale?

Cessna put out Service Kit SK70A52-3 to add the Thumb Latch for C-170's below S/N 20267. In case you missed it, it can be found in the "Maintenance Library" under "Service Kits". You'll find the p/n's you are looking for there.

Thanks again, Gary. I'll link the forum where you posted the kit instructions:

And just to then answer my own question for sake of insanity, the part numbers are A591 Eyelet and C189 Washer. I'll update if/when I'm able to locate these parts.

As promised, an update. I was able to locate the kit at Preferred Airparts. Price was roughly $100. The New-Old-Stock bag had Aeromexico markings and a shiny new Boeing 707 on it.
Anyone want a latch assembly, 0411590-1?

The PDF calls out a a591 eyelet and matching washer which is listed on that page.

Also google for oblong grommet and you get more options.
