Landing light

Post by Thart739@gmail.com »

Has anyone had there landing light stuck down and on? I went to do a night flight today and when I extended the landing light down it came down and then would not turn off or retract back up. I have a 48 170 and the switch is one of the piano switches.

I'd guess stuck points on the landing light switch or a relay. If you go to the "TIC170A Members Only Page" (above in the blue header) and then scroll all the way to the bottom you will see the link you need for the Grimes G3602 landing light. Also take a look at this thread. At the bottom I provided a link to a good article by Neal Wright about the Grimes landing light. Good luck!

Thanks Gary that's exactly what the problem was. Now another question for everyone with a grimes landing light, has anyone tried to swap out there incandescent bulb for an LED light?

I have found many posts about our Grimes retractable landing lights but cannot find where anyone has answered the previous question in this post about replacing with LED bulb. Is there a drop in replacement?

I don't have an answer to your question but if I was looking for one I'd download and read this very informative information from the Cessna 120/140 group which uses the same landing light. Here is the link to it: http://www.cessna120-140.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2148

It it you will find detail of the original bulb. All you need to do is search for an LED equivalent. It is a pretty bright bulb and you may not find an equivalent. Some of the 140 guys use a substitute which is half the brightness. You will see talk of it. You will probably be able to find a LED equivalent for that substitute but it will only be less than half the brightness of your original.
CAUTION - My forum posts may be worth what you paid for them!
