This is a slide show that the FAA uses to describe Airworthiness

Thanks for that slide show. For me the most interesting part is addressed to flight instructors challenging them to practice what they preach. As a CFI, that means I should not teach a student to inspect an aircraft for defects during a preflight and then proceed to fly the aircraft without getting them fixed. While the rules quoted are certainly current and relevant, I wonder if the average pilot really makes sense of them. I would like to see a presentation on airworthiness that addresses issues/conditions that are commonly found in aviation and explains the potential consequences to pilots. While mechanics are responsible for inspections, maintenance, etc, it is pilots who control when, where, and who accomplishes them. Economics have a huge impact on airworthiness and I believe pilots should have more information on that subject. I think you have opened up a really important topic and I hope we hear a lot of input. We all will benefit.

I believe many pilots depend upon their A&P-IA to keep them out of trouble.
