Does anyone know the part number of the brushes for Delco-Remy 1109656 starter? (= original in O-300-A)
Or what is the best place for buying and ordering those?
Thank you in advance and regards from Finland! - Kari

Sorry to be a bit slow in responding to this request, but this question was addressed at:
http://cessna170.org/forums/viewtopic.p ... hes#p75252
The starter brushes for the Delco Remy 1109656 starter are Delco Remy PN 1881838, and that number cross references to a NAPA part number R-501. They cost about $4 each. This is the NAPA autoparts Echlin brand and is a direct interchange. Their website will allow you to order online. http://www.napaonline.com
They are the identical brushes which fit an American Motors automobile for 1951. Additional interchangeable part numbers are: 1885058, 1906976, J3112704 (a John Deere tractor number), 9F3481 (another tractor number), 66847, 3112704 (also industrial numbers.)

Yes, and I found that O'Reilly autoparts (here in the US) carries the same part, crossreferenced to a Bosch part (their BWD brand part number X357) for $2.99 for a set of four.)

Thanks George. No, I Don't have a lightweight starter--should have gotten one while I worked at Sky-Tec, but didn't. just replaced the brushes and bushings on my spare starter. What I'm looking for are the bushing and Garlock info for the starter adapter. You know, that area that always ends up leaking around the pinion (?) shaft.

Just got my new brushes from Fresno Airparts. Original Delco part with the number 838 on them. Mailed via priority US mail and only took 2 days to Texas. My starter has about 350 hrs since last overhaul and it appears the brushes are more than half-way worn. Figured it was time.

That, in my opinion, should work unless your starter has other issues (bad bushings, etc) although brushes only half worn should still work as well as new ones. Other more knowledgeable members may feel otherwise.
