Hi, do you guys have any info on getting the cigarette lighter in my 56 172 working again. I know it was deactivated but I really would like to use it to keep my garmin going.
I mentioned this to the AI who just did the annual and he's like sure we can do that, but now he is unavailable. Anyone with some info I would appreciate....thanks Pete

I believe it also explains how to reconnect it so that it is usable.
If I recall correctly, one method was to run the wire to a hot buss with an inline fuse, but that is based on a 30 year memory lapse.

The cigar lighter was the subject of AD 79-08-03 The problem was the circuit was not protected correctly. The AD spell out how to fix it. One way is to disconnect it as your is. The method you would prefer is to protect it with a suitable breaker or fuse which the AD also allows.
