Yes,..the thin/light-weight nose bowls are famous for cracks. Poncho, when you finish yours you’ll be ready to do a ‘53...??

Re: Nose Bowl Replacement
Interesting thing about this project, mine is a 48, so this is a “new” inlet. Nothing available for a 48 -52 170 and 170A. When I get the project done I will try to write up an article for the quarterly if anyone is interested..cheers

FYI, those screw holes for winter plates are not original. Original plates are held on to the back of the grill with J hooks. Guess they were already in your originals and you can't undrill them so your stuck with them. Just thought you should know.
Nice work.

Yes it is very robust. If you purchase this air scoop and have a 170 or 170A its ton of work. Today I riveted the entire assembly. I like the look of a countersunk riveted nose bowl, so I got fancy. Paint shop soon.....tomorrow I replace all those nasty PK tinnerman style fasteners on the lower cowl fuselage area with anchor nuts.....I had no idea how labour intensive this would be......c170b53 wrote:Carbon fibre ? My aluminum has a few cracks, stop drilled but unsightly, might have to go that route.

It’s a shame Bruce got rid of his Rat-Plane project. I was hoping some day to see how he might make duct-tape look. Instead he’s decided to go Totally-Legal and gain his A&P. (So many changes these days.... What’s the world coming to...?)

This is off subject but in case the new owner of my recently sold N7A is reading, my "Rat Plane" was not N7A but my first 170. As for an A&P making one totally legal, all I can say is I've seen plenty of illegal A&P activity over the years.GAHorn wrote:It’s a shame Bruce got rid of his Rat-Plane project. Re: Nose Bowl Replacement
I was searching out info on nose scoop repair and ran across this thread, somehow I missed it earlier. No worries Bruce!Bruce Fenstermacher wrote:This is off subject but in case the new owner of my recently sold N7A is reading, my "Rat Plane" was not N7A but my first 170.
