The International Cessna^® 170 Association

I researched the installation of the Horton STOL on a 170A and no flap gap seal is called for. I think we would need approval to install flap gap seal as in STC. The Horton kit slows a 170A down in cuise by about 5 mph. I believe it has noticeable improvement in slow flight characteristics. I can maintain altitude with nearly zero indicated. It lifts off quicker than other 170s I've flown. Unfortunately it is placarded against intentional spins. I have flown with and without the aileron gap seal installed and I could not notice any difference but I installed it to be correct.

Found them from horton with STC for $123 plus shipping. Smoking deal not worth fighting for my own approval with that price.

On another note, no way would I put flap gap seals on a B model. Your argument concerning an A model may be valid though.

I don't think there would be a need for flap gap seals on an "A" model....The "B" model is different under the wing.....possibaly allowing for burbles where the flap and wing meet....that, as I believe was the reason for the seals.....Brad

Aileron gap seals can be easily istalled on a "B" model wing and its doubtful that anyone would even notice them without it being brought to their attention.
