Could this have been eliminated by simply touching the grounded nozzle to he exterior of empty can after it has sat on concrete for several minutes?.

Thousands of people have been fortunate haven't they.

Yes thousands and thousands and thousands of lucky people. Or maybe, just maybe there is a little more to it. Hmmmmm.

Don't you think that if this was really really dangerous, plastic gas cans would have gone by the wayside a long time ago. Hmmmmm. :?

The nozzle is grounded so he would have had to stick the nozzle in the gas to discharge it assuming it it the gas holding the charge. He did touch the plastic which should have discharged the charge if the plastic was holding it.

It's not the odds, it's the size of the bet. Hardly ever happens, and we rarely hear about it even when it does, but if it does happen to us there goes our airplane. A car mechanic friend says they fuel and defuel cars all the time, but they don't consider it safe, even though they've only had one spark-ignited fire in 20 years.

This really always has been a question of mine. I've been taught proper grounding while fueling. I understand static build up. I get the spark from the static discharge ignites the fumes.

So why is it people aren't burning themselves up on a daily bases?

Then enter the plastic can. Should make the situation even worse. But it hasn't seemed to do so.

I'd really like to understand why that is.
