160/ 180 hp 170

Many years back I drove 188s and Beavers for a living. Now I think I need a 170. There is one around with a run out 145 hp engine. Can people who know give me some idea of the cost of conversion and performance increase from each engine? Many thanks in advance.

Expensive. I think the consensus is to buy one with the conversion. I have a very nice airframe with an 0-300 and would like to make the change, but can never make the figures work.

No, never flew an Electra but went to the arctic islands in one many times. Mine was a Cessna. You are a clever guy.

Worked seismic out of Resolute Bay ,Inuvik, Tuktoyuktuk and many other places. Spent hours in DC3s and Twin Otters on skis.DC4 hauling fuel. Electras landing on ice strips 500 miles from nearest town and Hercs taking off empty at negative 2000 ft density altitude. I didn't fly then but sure made a lot of money which came in handy later in life. Now I want to spend some on a conversion.

I looked into this a year or two ago and it seems the only people really supporting an STC currently are Del-Air and Stoots in Alaska. Both are great conversions, but not cheap. AS someone else suggested, it's much more economical to find one already converted.

It seems like there are few more active STC's out there for 175's...probably because that geared engine was such a loser. You can often find converted 175's at really good prices....half a similar 170. Of course the little wheel is at the wrong end, but that's less expensive to change than the engine.

Oh what the heck, I 'm desperate! What you need to spend some money on is a Convention . 170 of course
We really need new blood to take the long distance award, real soon :)
