Map Cubby

Post by flyboy122 »

Hi All,

I'm finishing off the design for my panel overhaul on '53 170B, and I may end up having a lot of unused space over on the right bottom corner. My airplane is nowhere near original, and neither will the panel be, but I'm trying to sort of give it that period look. Along those lines, I was thinking of adding a map pocket/cubby with door in that empty corner. A few questions:

1. Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the stock 170 parts?
2. Anyone have any pics of how it goes together?
3. Assuming it all works out, does anyone have an assembly they want to get rid of?

Thanks,
DEM

I have a complete cut out panel. Will send photos after I take them.

Never heard it called a "cubby" before... Do you mean the "glove box"? I may have one of those as well (along with the piano keys.) I'll be out of pocket for the next 10 days...so it'll have to wait to be certain...but let me know/reminder by email.

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)

Yeah, I was having a brain fart the night I made the post. Glove box is it. Since they made a few different kinds, I'd need some pics/dimensions to know if it would work. No rush, though. Thanks!!

The glove box, panel overlay and door were the same from '48 to and including '52. They started to change with the new panel in '53.

I have all the dimensions for the 48-52 box which could easily be made from sheet aluminum. It is the the panel overlay and the door that are tricker to make or come by.
