Broke down in Carl's bad NM

Family friend bring home a 170b from GA to CA, stuck in NM. Any one close by that maybe able to lend advice? He's new to the plane, but it's been in family for 40 yrs. if you can help I'll send you there #
Started decent for fuel, Started spitting and sputtering won't clear up. All info I have.

If he has been running on only 100 LL fuel, check the spark plugs. If it has been running rich, there is a good chance of seriously fouled spark plugs.
I had the same symptoms one summer up in Idaho after a summer of short flights and rich mixtures.of 100LL

Thx for reply,,,,,ended up being 3 stuck valves. I suggested the rope trick....not sure what he's going to do.

Dick ... your intuitive and experienced advice is impressive at such a young age..! (I hope I'm as alert as you if/when I get there. We all love you man!)
