Alternator fasteners?

Post by rydfly »

So I finally have my engine back from the overhaul shop and, evidently, 4 months has been just too long for me to keep track of some of my misc. accessory fasteners

I've lost all the nuts, washers, etc. that I need to reinstall the alternator. I'm struggling to find them in either the Cessna or Continental parts guides. Can someone please tell me, what combination of fasteners do I need to go buy to do this right? I'm guessing one plain washer, one lock washer, and one nut (locking?) for each of the 3 studs.

Bonus points if you can tell me where the torque spec will be too.

Thanks in advance!

All of that information is on the TCM Motors web site for free:
The following should get you directly there. There are actually several different parts catalogs depending on the spec number of the engine.
Torque service bulletin here:
http://www.tcmlink.com/pdf2/SB96-7D.pdf
This will get you most of the parts numbers:

Kennet,

Here's a snapshot from the O-300 IPC:

I am quite surprised it calls for using elastic stop nuts. As a rule of thumb these are not used forward of the firewall. Some time ago George added SK-172-22 to the Maintenance Library. It calls for using the nuts used to attach the generator for attaching the alternator.

Thanks for the links!

I had the parts manual and now clearly see what fasteners I'm needing. It was staring me in the face all along... that'll teach me to not stay up so late in the hangar. Amazing how a little sleep can clarify things!

I did not have a copy of that torque reference document, so thanks for that.

FYI, it's a Plane Power alternator that I'm reinstalling. I'll dig through the install instruction paperwork in my records, but I'm pretty sure it uses the same fasteners as the original generator would have as specified by TCM.
