'48 fuel cap gasket

Has anyone found a source, or even material to make a gasket for the fuel cap on a '48 ragwing? I've tried several things, but they didn't seal very well or reacted to the fuel and curled.

My ragwing caps are fitted with what is technically referred to as a BAOR. That's short for Big A** O Rings. Seem to work well. Had the airplane for over 6 years & haven't needed to replace them yet. They're probably available at your local NAPA Airmotive.

Ordered two extra oil cap gaskets from
http://www.realgaskets.com for the gas caps, they work great. Been
real happy with them.

The oil cap gasket has worked well too.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't simply order the correct part from Cessna distributors, :0322551 GASKET
(List Price: $ 71.40) YOUR price=== $ 60.69 (EA)
Try ordering from Aircraft Spruce 877-477-7823, PN: FC2651 (fits A/B models) for $1.50.

All you A & B guys--be advised that the ragwing (1948) model fuel caps are completely different from the later model 170's,also different from the 120/140 for some reason, even though the ragwing tanks are apparently 12.5 gallon 120/140 tanks (left-overs?). According to my 1948 IPC,the fuel cap gasket is p/n 0522538.
As far as A & B gaskets go,I'm not too sure that your part number is correct George. That gasket is for Spruce's "bayonet fuel caps and filler necks" set. They list a Cessna gas tank gasket p/n 05-18505 (2-1/4"OD,1-3/8"ID)for $5.95 in my year-old catalog.

The 170 ragwing IPC pg 7, shows item 3-18 "fuel cap gasket" as PN 322538, which has been superceded to PN 322551 (the one I previously listed so outrageously priced at Cessna.)
For the corresponding Aircraft Spruce PN FC2651, I relied on N1478D's comment that the oil cap gasket also works. I should have known better than to accept the word of a certain flat-winger regarding a part for a
real airplane.

What is the outside/inside diameter and thickness of the gasket for a ragwing?

Now George, all I said was what I ordered. The fact that I fly an A is listed in all of my posts! A straight-winger is much more accurate. Your wing is as flat as mine, and, of course, the slowest wing of all.

I checked the 1948 IPC--item 3-18 is indeed listed as "p/n 0322538: gasket--fuel tank cap". Hopwever, check page 15,for the RIGHT wing structure--item 7-10 is listed as "p/n 0522538: gasket, fuel tank cap". My LH & RH caps are identical,I assume that the gaskets would be identical also. I assume one of these numbers is a typo, especially given the similarity of the part numbers--only the second number is different (one's a 3,one's a 5).
Where did you get the information regarding the gasket part number being superceded to 322551?

A check at
http://cessnaparts.com/parts.cfm listing the pn's desired will retrieve from Cessna's ICT warehouse the current inventory on hand. (The website is maintained by Hill Aircraft, a Cessna Distributor, but the search engine is a direct link to Cessna.)
The results will be the number on hand, suggested retail price, YOUR not-so-heavily discounted price, and/or the superceded PN, which when clicked upon, will renew the search for that superceded part number.
What are the dimensions of the ragwing gasket?

I measured the fuel cap & tank neck on my ragwing yesterday. The cap gasket minimum ID is 3.35",the maximum OD is 4.45".
What the original gasket measured I have no idea, like I said, mine is fitted with O rings.

FWIW,I noticed this o the front page of the 6/99 Flypaper while browsing some old issues:
" Ed Shaffer #5621 NC has found a source for fuel caps & gaskets for the '48 ragwing: Brown Aircraft Products Inc,1119 Cobb Pkwy S,Marietta GA 30062; 770-590-1252"

Thanks to Bill K; 3958V, I found Real Gaskets Tennessee @ 1-800-635-7325 and found the right size gaskets for $15.50 each part # RG-2551). They are twice the thickness of my existing gaskets but I might bet the ones installed might have been replaced at least once before in the last 66 yrs.
