Gear Legs, Weight and Balance.....HELP

Post by tonymarshall »

I had some 180 gear legs (pn 0741001-1/2) installed on my 170B (sn 25190). They replaced stock 170B gear legs (pn 0541114). This work was done under an STC.

Unfortunately when the work was done, prior to a new weight and balance being completed, the new legs were not weighed, and the old legs have been sold. I realize this was a deficiency on the part of my AP.

Does anyone out there have the weights for the legs in question? Or have the ability to weigh some for me? I have called Cessna....no help.

Any help will be appreciated....sincerely.

According the XP Mods the weight difference between 170 legs and early 180 legs is 2-3 lbs per gear leg or I would say average it to a total 5 lb addition to your weight.

I am in Priest River, ID and would be able to weigh it again if you want an accurate number. I will be weighing a few airplanes over the next few weeks. If you bring it over I could do it for as little as $50.

Bruce, we have a quality new 170 Fan among us! Kirk is convinced that a 170 is the plane he must have, even though I’ve tried to talk him out of it. He's an Alaskan Sheep Hunter in your neck of the woods, so you might need to show him the ropes. He’s in the process of pre-buying a B and has lots of questions. Sticking with this subject, if he gets this B, he will change out for 180 gear legs also.

One painted 170B gear leg ( no axle ) from my 53 model ( not lady leg ) weighs 29.2 pounds.

Thanks everyone for your help with this. I did talk with tom at xpmods who kindly provided the info I needed. The 170 community and this site are amazing....ask a question....get the answer. Thanks again.
