170B fuel cap gasket

Post by Richgj3 »

I searched for and ordered one from Spruce. What I got was a gasket in a package marked “170 and195”. It’s way too big. Since I know the caps are the same as a 172 I sent an email to Spruce and they seem confused. So, since I don’t know much about the rag wing, do they use different and larger caps than the B model?

Yes, the Ragwing uses entirely different tanks and caps.

Here’s what will work for you. $2. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/ ... ckkey=7373

1-1/2" ID, 2-1/4" OD, 1/8" Thick.

This also fits the oil/sump cap, and the gascolator.

We have a charter member (old timer) who never visits the forums who sent me a letter recently telling me how difficult it was for his IA to find gascolator gaskets.... but finally found them for only $27 each, and sent me the contact info for the source. I’m debating if I should tell him about this.

Warning: Do NOT use EPDM (so-called “silicone rubber” the stuff often used for “Real Gaskets” rocker covers and baffle seal) gaskets for the gascolator. They will swell, deform, and suddenly dump your fuel out the lower cowl opening, perhaps in-flight.

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)
