Please note: The date has changed and contingency plans have changed.
Hello TIC170A members.
CHANGE: 10 Feb Joint Oklahoma/Texas TIC170A Fly-In Lunch
We’re now close enough to the 3 Feb date that the various weather-guessing web sites are consistently predicting a significant amount of rain. The long-range WX web sites are predicting a much better picture for 10 Feb. We don’t like to change dates so close to an event, but it really appears that if we left it alone, we probably would not be able to fly in; to Smokin’ Joe’s or Ardmore (ADM). So, lets shoot for 10 Feb. Also, so we can better plan our ground transport contingency, please eMail, text or call Ken Peck with your intent to attend. Please note the revised contingency plan as described below.
OK/TX Feb 10 Smokin’ Joe Rib Ranch, Davis, OK
This will be a joint Texas/Oklahoma fly-in to a new and unique destination. Smokin' Joe's Rib Ranch, 3165 Jollyville Rd, Davis, OK 73030, (580) 369-2818, is just a short distance east of I35 and south of Davis, Oklahoma.
They serve fantastic barbecue (ribs their specialty), have an RV park out back, and behind that is their uncharted grass airstrip. A document depicting the airstrip is available here: https://app.box.com/s/46hkjbbro2pfosbnjaqw1sfykuzgxuc5. Let's plan to park by 11:00 a.m. to walk in together. We welcome our Texas and Oklahoma members, their guests, and anyone from other states who wish to join us.
If you have questions, by eMail, text or voice, please contact Ken Peck at (512) 468-7790 or c170ken@gmail.com or Jim Yates at (405) 812-8982 or jyates2@cox.net.
Revised Contingency Plan: Should it rain causing the runway at Smokin' Joe's to be too soft to use without damaging it, we thought it would be useful to have a contingency plan. We've simplified the plan - if we can't or don't wish to land at Smokin' Joe's sod air strip, lets gather at Ardmore Muni (ADM). They are fairly close, and of course have a paved runway (tower controlled). Here is a link to a page with which we will announce the condition of the runway and trigger the contingency plan should that become necessary: https://app.box.com/s/pbhv7ewkla43nnzv583fd75rj490snxg We'll arrange transportation from ADM to & from Smokin' Joe's. PLEASE NOTE: If landing at ADM, please arrive early enough to be tied down and ready to leave for Smokin' Joe's by 1020.
Although we've simplified the contingency plan, it would greatly help us if you could contact Ken or Jim as listed above. They need to know if you are planning on joining us, how many will be in your party, if you will be landing at Smokin' Joe's (if the runway is serviceable) and/or if you will be landing at ADM. Be sure to include a cell number where you can be reached after landing.
Thanks to all for your patience and flexibility. We hope the weather cooperates, and everyone can have a very enjoyable experience.

Re: Changes for TX & OK Feb. Fly-in
Thanks Ken! I should be able to make it on Feb 10. I was not going to be able to make Feb 3. I'll probably be flying a non-C170 though, the 170 is in for annual.

Re: Changes for TX & OK Feb. Fly-in
Weather and runway condition is looking good for Saturday, 10 Feb. We're looking forward to seeing our Oklahoma and Texas friends (and any others who can make it) at Smokin' Joe's. Please check the page at: https://app.box.com/s/pbhv7ewkla43nnzv583fd75rj490snxg for important information. Also, this page: https://app.box.com/s/46hkjbbro2pfosbnjaqw1sfykuzgxuc5 is still available for airstrip information and location. USE CAUTION if you have not been into this airstrip before; let's be safe and have a great lunch.
Re: Changes for TX & OK Feb. Fly-in
The joint Texas and Oklahoma fly-in was held February 10th at Smokin Joe's Rib Ranch just south of Davis Oklahoma.
The weather in the vicinity of Smokin Joe's was VFR, however due to widespread MVFR or IFR many members were unable to fly there. We had one member fly in and six who drove.
Everyone enjoyed a great visit and all agreed the food was superb. We would highly recommend the the establishment, whether you are flying or driving through near the area. It is an interesting setup with the restaurant, a gift shop, an RV park and airstrip.
Everyone extends their appreciation to Jim Yates and Karl Towle for organizing the fly-in.
Those who were able to attend were: Jim Yates, Paul & Debra Wood, Karl & Nancy Towle, Naomi Goodlet and Ken Peck.

Re: Changes for TX & OK Feb. Fly-in
While only two of our number had not been to Smokin' Joe's before, we all agreed afterward that it was definitely worth the effort to attend. We all want to thank Ken and Jim for their role in organizing this event. I especially want to thank Ken, Naomi, and my wife Nancy for stopping by Ardmore (ADM) airport for the purpose of shuttling flyers to the restaurant as we had announced - although it turned out to be unnecessary. In any event, we had a great time, and look forward to trying this destination again - hopefully with even better weather.
