A friend is buying an early O-300 powered 172, & was a bit concerned about engine parts availability, especially with regards to replacement crankshafts in case one was needed at overhaul time. The A&P owner of a local engine shop, which I believe is a CRS,told him that was no problem, that it was possible to just use the crank out of an IO-360.
Does anyone know if this is a factory-endorsed substitution?

crankshafts
I recently explored this crankshft question.
I was told , not having read it my self,
that the I0-360 crank will fit in the 0-300D ,
I recall mention of a service bulletin.
The only issue is the gear on the back mounts with different
size bolts , so a differant gear and bolts must be used .
