Door issues,
I have a 53 170B that has had the original right door modified into a jump door.
This has never been approved by field approval. The one stc I know of utilizes an
entirely new door and I have been unable to contact the person that owns the stc
anyway.
The FAA in Anchorage has declined to approve this modification and I am trying to
get this issue resolved.
I did purchase a door off a 56 cessna 172 thinking that the doors were
interchangable, hoping to return it to original. Unfortunately the upper hinge on
the 172 is shorter than that utilized on the 170B's.
If anyone has had experience in this area I would could sure use some advise.
I would like to contact the person that owns the stc. It is possible that I might
be able to use this stc by having the stc holder sign off on the differences.
Anybody know how to contact him?
Otherwise if I could find an upper hinge off a 170B possibly I could swap hinges on
the 172 door and make that work. Anyone know of a source for 170B hinge?
Thank you. Mark Munro

The 170 is one of many aircraft approved by the FAA for flight with one cabin door removed (in case you still wanted to use it for a jump aircraft.)
The upper door hinges are difficult to obtain because they take abuse by folks using the door to support their weight when boarding/disembarking. If you are a TIC170A member it is possible that the Assoc. may have one, and I'll look when I return from this trip in Mass. on Monday. (I'm sitting in Fitchburg, just No. of Boston)
