Exhaust stack clamps?

Post by N170BP »

Can anyone tell me where I can find replacement exhaust stack
clamps (these are a two-piece affair and clamp the straight/stock
exhaust stack to the bottom of the mufflers). This is for my
'54 C-170B.

Part # is 0550157-5 (I think that's an assembly part number).

TIA,

Thanks. I found a set at a place called Aircraft Exhaust Systems
back east (the Wag Aero price is a little cheaper though....).

Oops, sorry.... The receipt is at home and I'm off campus. I'll post
the contact info as soon as I can get my hands on it.

I'm a little late (been gone all weekend) but here is
the source info for the exhaust stack clamps I obtained:

On the receipt, it says that "Aircraft Exhaust Systems
was acquired by AWI"

so here's the contact info:

Aerospace Welding Minnieapolis, Inc
12124 12th Ave. South
Burnsville, MN 55337

1-800-597-4315
(952) 890-1511
Fax: (952) 890-6256

The receipt says they also have an operation
in Florida but it doesn't give a Florida address or
phone numbers.

The clamps were $19.20 each for the ones with the
locating/indexing pin and $7.05 each for the "plain"
clamps.

The only clamps which have an indexing pin are the tailpipe to muffler clamps located below the muffler, which leads me to mention my previous post was regarding the exhaust riser clamps. I misread the original post.
Thanks for the info.

For the Hanlon-Wilson mufflers, what type of hardware(nuts/bolts) -stainless steel? One of them was fairly welded on, so would like to replace all hardware on that side.

Bela,as long as you're buying stuff ( remember,a $100 bill instead of a $500 bill!), WagAero also sells extended tailpipes for the H-W system on 170/172's. Replaces the stock tailpipe, sticks out a bit farther to eliminate the soot on the cowl behind the tailpipes. P/n E-420-000,$136.75 a pair.
A half-page ad in a recent TAP sez "Radial Exhaust Systems,Jumping Branch WV,formerly Aircraft Exhaust Systems". So maybe they only do radial exhausts now,& sold the tooling for other systems to AWI ??

How did it go in that other thread? About being frugal....
My exhaust stacks look like they're darned near new
(they were probably replaced during the engine overhaul
150 hours ago).

Rule #1 in aviation: If something ain't broke, don't fix it!

Thanks for the part #'s though!

Rule 2: when you decide to fix anything, even a little thing,be prepared to rebuild the entire airplane due to the "cascading chain of events" syndrome!

And if you install extended tailpipes be prepared to execute the proper installation authorization paperwork (field approval/stc) and be prepared to deal with increased likelihood of exhaust system cracks due to overhang/moment.
