window seal/gasket

the seal or gasket on my windows is getting worn out. Does anyone know if that part is still available? 1952 170b

It (PN 761483) is still available from Cessna distributors at the cost of approximately $90 for two windows, but... the material they use does not last long. It tends to dry out and become "chalky" and disintegrate within a few years and needs ongoing replacement.
A better material in my opinion is Brown Aircraft's BA-1055-1. It is shaped better as well, sort of like a "U" with a "P" section (UP). The U fits the doorframe and the P seals against the window frame. Brown Aircraft Supply 904-396-6655 or http://www.brownaircraft.com Tell them the 170 Assoc'n Parts guy (me) sent you. (I'm expecting to ask them for a donation to the assoc'n soon and will need the bonus-points.) You'll need about 96 inches to complete <edit> each window, and it is easily installed using 3M 1300L thinned with MEK.

thanks for the quick reply....do they also make a good seal for the doors?
when the passenger side door is closed i see daylight in the bottom rear corner...or is it a bad fitting door?

Not seeing your door....I can't comment of it's fitment. I recommend Brown's PN: T-9088. This is a soft, foam, black "P" type of seal very similar to what is sold as "Piper" door seal by Spruce and others. Cessna has no record of what they used originally, but this is as close as I've been able to determine and is what is on my airplane successfully for 7 years now.

George,
The Brown BA 1055-1seal seems a strange shape for the window seal. I need to replace my window seals. Have you tried this seal with good results? I thought something flat would be used there.

I think the way it is installed, the "U" shape is slipped over the edge of the window opening--it's inside surface is the one with the adhesive--that leaves the "P" hanging out in the breeze. When the window is closed against the "P", it flattens out and seals the window.

I think for a door, a "P" seal with sufficient bulb diameter or the "Cessna Door Seal" quarter round would probably work fine.

The "U" portion fits onto the window frame.... the "P" portion is what the window closes against. It's what's on my airplane. It's perfect. (Along the bottom of the window frame, the portion of the "U" that fits inside the cabin is trimmed away.)

I'm probably gona catch some flack for this one. The aircraft parts section of Home Depot has some nice 1/4 X 1/2 soft foam strip with an adhesive back that does a great job. It does not cause much stress when you close the window and it stays in place if you open the window and it is cheap. Bill K

The "square" section is what slips over the lip of the door, while the open "P" section is what fills the gap between the window-frame and the door. It's an absolutely PERFECT weatherseal for the openable door windows, and exactly the correct size as well.
